This year the Seminary was again honored by the visit of His Excellency Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the SSPX. Bishop Fellay himself celebrated many of the beautiful ceremonies during this holiest of weeks. The Photography Department at the Seminary was careful to capture as much of this traditional liturgy as possible. We here offer you the fruits of their labors in the hope that these photos will lead to a greater love of God and dedication to work always for His glory.

His Excellency Bishop Fellay, on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, ordained eleven fifth-year seminarians to the subdiaconate and ten fourth-year seminarians to the minor orders of Exorcist and Acolyte. The subdiaconate is one of the most important times in the life of the seminarian, since it is the "irrevocable step". Once a seminarian takes this step, he commits himself for his entire life to the clerical state. The orders of Exorcist and Acolyte, while not demanding this level of commitment, nevertheless bring the seminarian even closer to the altar of sacrifice, and are the proper and necessary preparation for the entry into major orders.

The Feast of Candlemas on February 2 was also the occasion for many seminarians to take one step closer to the altar. Bishop Fellay celebrated a Pontifical Mass during which 13 seminarians donned the cassock for the first time, 10 received the clerical tonsure, and 7 were ordained to the minor orders of Porter and Lector.

Archbishop Lefebvre chose this feast for seminarians and priests to make and renew their engagements in the Priestly Society of St. Pius X. Accordingly, each year on this feast, the seminarians in the First Philosophy Year (having completed their year of spirituality) make their first engagements in the Society. This year, Seminary Vice-Rector Rev. Fr. Thomas Asher also made his perpetual engagement. To honor the official entrance of so many seminarians into the Priestly Society, and to give greater glory to the Mother of God, the polyphonic choir and the Schola Cantorum joined voices to sing an alternating polyphonic and plainchant Mass called the Missa Regia.
